About This Program

Georgia residents age 62 or older may claim a $10,000 exemption from assessed value for educational (school) ad valorem taxes. Income must not exceed $10,000 for the prior year (excluding retirement income excluded by the Social Security Act). Apply annually at the county tax assessor's office by April 1. This is a state-level exemption separate from local Fulton/Atlanta exemptions.
