Texas Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

Travis Central Appraisal District / Texas Comptroller

active county

About This Program

Texas offers tiered property tax exemptions to disabled veterans based on VA-rated disability percentage: 10–29% = $5,000 exemption; 30–49% = $7,500; 50–69% = $10,000; 70–99% = $12,000. Veterans with a 100% disability rating or unemployability (TDIU) receive a full exemption on their entire homestead — effectively $0 in property taxes. Surviving spouses may continue the exemption.

100% disabled or TDIU veterans receive complete property tax exemption on their homestead. Annual savings equal full property tax bill — often $8,000–$20,000+ for an average Austin home.
