About This Program

Alabama exempts qualifying disabled veterans and their unremarried surviving spouses from all property taxes on their homestead. Veterans with a permanent and total disability (including 100% VA disability rating) qualify regardless of income or assessed value. Veterans who purchased homes under a VA Special Adapted Housing grant also qualify. The exemption applies as long as the veteran owns and occupies the home.
