About This Program

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free federal and state tax preparation to income-eligible Birmingham residents, including access to the Earned Income Tax Credit and other refundable credits that can be reinvested in home repairs. The United Way of Central Alabama and UAB's RIFE program are key local providers. Homeowners who receive a large EITC refund can use the funds for housing improvements.
