South Carolina's Homestead Exemption provides a complete property tax exemption on the first $50,000 in Fair Market Value of a primary residence for homeowners age 65+, totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind. Pending 2025-2026 legislation may increase the exemption to $100,000-$150,000. Disabled veterans may qualify for a full exemption on their primary residence.
Savings depend on local millage rate. At SC's average effective rate (~0.57%) on $50,000, annual savings are approximately $285.
Deadline: Apply by July 15 of the tax year
