Texas Over-65 / Disabled Homestead Property Tax Exemption

Dallas Central Appraisal District (DCAD) / City of Dallas

active state

About This Program

Homeowners who are 65 or older, or who qualify as disabled, receive additional property tax exemptions on top of the standard homestead exemption. The City of Dallas raised its over-65/disabled exemption to $175,000 effective tax year 2025. State law also freezes school district taxes at the age-65 level, preventing future increases regardless of appraised value increases.

City of Dallas $175,000 exemption at roughly 0.75% city rate saves approximately $1,312/year. Plus school tax freeze.
