IRS / Colorado VITA Network
The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free, certified tax preparation for households earning roughly $69,000 or less. In Colorado, Get Ahead Colorado and Colorado VITA operate numerous Denver-area sites including MSU Denver. Properly filed returns can unlock the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (up to $7,830), Colorado EITC (50% of federal), Child Tax Credit, and other credits that can fund home improvements.
VITA itself is free, the value is in the credits it captures. EITC alone can provide $324-$7,830 depending on income and dependents. Colorado EITC adds 50% on top.
Deadline: January, April 15 annually (Tax Season)
