Texas Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

Texas Comptroller / Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD)

open state

About This Program

Texas provides property tax exemptions to disabled veterans scaled to their VA disability rating. Veterans with a 100% P&T (permanent and total) disability rating receive a full exemption on their homestead — eliminating all property taxes. Surviving spouses of qualifying veterans may also be eligible. The exemption amount ranges from $12,000 for 10–29% disability to full exemption for 100% P&T.

100% P&T veteran with a $300,000 home at ~2.5% tax rate saves approximately $7,500/year in property taxes.
