About This Program

The Texas Historic Preservation Tax Credit provides a 25% state tax credit for the rehabilitation of certified historic buildings, applicable against Texas Franchise Tax or Insurance Premium Tax. The credit can be sold or transferred. Properties must be listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, or designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The program launched in 2015 and has supported $5.3 billion in investments statewide including major Houston projects.

25% credit on $100,000 in qualified rehabilitation = $25,000 in Texas state tax credit (can be sold).
