Florida's standard Homestead Exemption reduces the taxable assessed value of a primary residence by $50,000 ($25,000 applicable to all taxes, $25,000 applicable to non-school taxes). This lowers the annual property tax bill and also activates the Save Our Homes 3% assessment cap, limiting future increases. Apply once at the Miami-Dade Property Appraiser's office; must be primary residence with homestead by January 1.
