VITA sites provide free IRS-certified tax preparation to low- and moderate-income New Orleans residents, helping them claim the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (up to $3,200/year for HVAC, insulation, windows, and heat pumps) and the Residential Clean Energy Credit (30% of cost for solar). VITA also helps homeowners claim the new Louisiana FORTIFIED Roof Tax Credit when filing state returns.
