About This Program

North Carolina veterans with a total and permanent service-connected disability rating from the VA may exclude the first $75,000 of their home's appraised value from property taxation (increased from $45,000 effective July 1, 2025). Unmarried surviving spouses of qualifying veterans also qualify. No income requirement applies. Submit VA Form NCDVA-9 to Wake County Tax Administration.

For a $300,000 home at 0.9% Wake County rate, $75,000 exclusion saves approximately $675/year
