Accessibility Statement
The short version: We want every homeowner to be able to research home-repair assistance here, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology. If something on this site blocks you, email support@thegrantmap.com so it can be prioritized as a defect.
Our standard
The Grant Map targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, on all public pages in both English and Spanish. Conformance is a target we engineer toward and re-test continuously, not a certification.
What is implemented
Semantic HTML landmarks and heading order, skip-to-content links on key pages, keyboard-operable navigation with a visible focus indicator, text alternatives on informative images, labeled form fields with error messages announced to screen readers, native disclosure widgets for expandable content, no keyboard traps in dialogs, and support for browser zoom without horizontal scrolling at standard breakpoints. We run automated accessibility checks during release testing and supplement them with targeted manual checks. Automated checks do not establish conformance. Accessibility defects are tracked and fixed like functional bugs.
Known limitations
We know about, and are working through, the following: some tap targets on small screens measure slightly under the 44-pixel guideline; a small number of text elements have contrast close to the minimum threshold; some inline links rely on color more than underlining; and screen-reader testing of authenticated dashboard flows is still less thorough than on public pages. If one of these, or anything else, blocks you, please tell us rather than struggling through it.
Feedback and remediation
Report any barrier to support@thegrantmap.com with the page address and, if you can, the assistive technology you were using. Reports are reviewed and prioritized as capacity allows, and barriers that block completing a core task (finding a program, screening options, contacting a program administrator) are treated as defects ahead of other work. We cannot promise a response time or an individual reply. Where a page itself is the barrier, the same program information is generally reachable through the administering organization's own phone or mail contacts.
Third-party content
Program applications, government websites, and contractor websites we link to are operated by their own organizations, and we cannot control their accessibility. If an official source is inaccessible, contact the administering organization to request an accessible way to obtain the same information or service. Its legal obligations and available alternatives depend on the organization and context. Each program page here lists any phone or mail contact we have on file.
