About This Program

USDA Section 504 grants of up to $10,000 are available to very low-income homeowners age 62 or older who cannot repay a loan, in eligible rural areas. Grants must be used to remove health or safety hazards. Charlotte proper is generally ineligible, but unincorporated areas of surrounding counties may qualify. Combined loan+grant ceiling is $50,000.
