About This Program

FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program provides funding following a Presidentially declared disaster to help communities reduce future disaster risks. Homeowners cannot apply directly — local governments and counties apply on behalf of residents. Colorado's DHSEM administers the program. Projects can include elevation, flood-proofing, wind retrofits, and safe room construction. The 75% federal/25% local cost share makes this accessible when a local government sponsors the application.
