About This Program

The CalHFA ADU Grant Program reimburses up to $40,000 in pre-development and non-recurring closing costs for eligible homeowners constructing an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on their primary residence. Eligible costs include architectural design, permits, soil tests, and impact fees. As of early 2026, the program is paused due to funding exhaustion, with future rounds possible.
