About This Program

FEMA HMGP funds projects that reduce future disaster losses, including home elevation above base flood elevation, home acquisitions in repeatedly flooded areas, and wind retrofits. Homeowners cannot apply directly; local governments submit on their behalf. New Orleans has active HMGP programs given its history of major hurricane declarations.

Federal share is 75% of eligible project cost. Home elevations in New Orleans typically run $50,000–$200,000+.
