USDA's Section 504 program provides grants up to $10,000 for homeowners age 62+ with very low incomes in rural areas to remove health and safety hazards. Loans up to $40,000 at 1% interest are available to very low-income rural homeowners regardless of age. Grants and loans can be combined for up to $50,000 in total assistance.
