About This Program

North Carolina's LIEAP program (funded by federal LIHEAP) provides one-time annual heating or cooling bill assistance to qualifying low-income households. FY 2026 heating benefits range from $300–$500; cooling benefits up to $600. Mecklenburg County applications accepted in person or by phone at DSS offices. Income limit is 130% FPL (150% FPL for elderly/disabled households).
