FEMA / Florida Division of Emergency Management
FEMA's HMGP provides federal funding after a Presidentially declared disaster to help communities implement hazard mitigation measures. In Florida, individual homeowners typically access HMGP funds through county-administered programs for home elevation, hurricane shutters, safe rooms, and structural mitigation. Miami-Dade County coordinates project submissions through its Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group (LMSWG). HMGP covers 75% of eligible project costs.
Homeowners do not apply directly to FEMA, Miami-Dade OEM coordinates and submits project requests. Contact Miami-Dade Emergency Management to be placed on the list for upcoming mitigation programs.
