About This Program

The VA offers Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grants up to $126,526 and Special Home Adaptation (SHA) grants up to $25,350 for FY 2026, available to veterans and service members with certain service-connected disabilities that impair mobility (e.g., loss of limb, blindness, severe burns). Grants fund construction, purchase, or modification of a home to accommodate the veteran's disability. Each grant can be used up to three times, up to the lifetime maximum.

SAH grant for permanent and total service-connected disability affecting mobility; SHA for lesser permanent disability. Temporary Residence Adaptation (TRA): up to $50,961 (SAH) / $9,100 (SHA) for a family member's home. Call SAH staff at 877-827-3702.
