About This Program

FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds flood elevation, storm hardening, acquisition, and other mitigation projects for homeowners in areas affected by presidentially declared disasters in Tennessee. Nashville-Davidson County has successfully applied for HMGP funds multiple times for flood-zone property acquisition and stormwater improvements. Homeowners apply through Metro Nashville, which submits sub-applications to TEMA.

75% federal, 25% match — often the local government covers the match. Individual homeowner eligibility and amounts vary by disaster declaration and project type.
