About This Program

RIHousing's Extra Assistance program provides down payment assistance of up to 6% of the purchase price (max $20,000) to income-qualifying first-time homebuyers in Rhode Island, including Providence. The assistance is provided as a second loan at the same interest rate as the primary RIHousing mortgage with a 15-year term. A homebuyer education course is required.
