VA Special Housing Adaptation (SHA) Grant

About This Program

The VA SHA grant assists veterans with certain service-connected disabilities (such as blindness in both eyes or loss of one hand) to adapt their current residence or build a more accessible home. FY 2026 maximum is $25,350. Like the SAH grant, can be used up to 6 times over a lifetime. Apply at the Sacramento VA Medical Center.

Different eligibility than SAH — for specific disabilities including bilateral blindness, loss of one hand

• Up to $25,350 (FY 2026) for veterans with qualifying service-connected disabilities
• Covers adaptations for bilateral blindness, loss of one hand, and related conditions
• Can be used up to 6 times in lifetime
• Apply with VA Form 26-4555 at va.gov or at Sacramento VA (916-843-7000)
• May be combined with Temporary Residence Adaptation (TRA) grant of up to $9,100
