Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
FEMA's HMGP provides post-disaster funding to reduce future disaster losses. San Diego homeowners in wildfire- or flood-prone areas may be eligible after a presidentially declared disaster for projects such as home hardening, defensible space improvements, floodproofing, elevation, or acquisition. Homeowners cannot apply directly — contact San Diego County Office of Emergency Services to ask about active HMGP cycles.
Must be in presidentially declared disaster area; local government applies on homeowner's behalf; 75/25 cost share; homeowner contribution may count toward local share; no income requirement
