About This Program

HUD's Lead Hazard Reduction grant program funds state and local agencies to identify and remediate lead-based paint hazards in pre-1978 housing with children under six. In Seattle and King County, the Seattle Office of Housing HomeWise program includes lead hazard abatement as an eligible repair category. Individual homeowners and renters access the program through local agency partners, not directly from HUD. Income qualification is typically required at 80% AMI or below.

Typical lead hazard reduction project runs $5,000–$25,000 per unit depending on scope and whether full abatement or encapsulation is required.
