About This Program

HISA provides veterans who need medically necessary home improvements and structural alterations with up to $6,800 (service-connected disability) or $2,000 (non-service-connected) over their lifetime. Improvements must be deemed medically necessary by a physician. Common uses include ramps, grab bars, roll-in showers, widened doorways, and other modifications to improve safe access to the home. Renters and homeowners are both eligible.

Lifetime cap $6,800 (service-connected) or $2,000 (non-service-connected). Requires physician documentation. Apply through VA Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at your local VA medical center. Central Texas VA: 254-743-2867.
