About This Program

The VA Specially Adapted Housing grant helps veterans with permanent and total service-connected disabilities live independently in adapted homes. For FY2026, the SAH grant provides up to $126,526. A separate Special Housing Adaptation (SHA) grant of up to $25,350 is available for veterans with different qualifying disabilities. Both grants can be used to construct, buy, or modify a home and may be used up to six times over a veteran's lifetime.

SAH: up to $126,526 (FY2026). SHA: up to $25,350. TRA (temporary adaptation at family member's home): up to $9,100. Usable up to 6 times. No income limit.
