About This Program

HUD's Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program funds local governments and nonprofits to remediate lead paint and other housing-related health hazards in pre-1978 homes housing low-income families with children under 6. The Healthy Homes Supplemental addresses additional hazards like mold, radon, fall risks, and fire safety. In Houston, the Houston Health Department administers local HUD lead grants. Homeowners pay nothing for covered remediation.

Individual household remediation cost typically $5,000โ€“$20,000 covered by HUD grant; no homeowner payment.
