About This Program

The Houston Health Department's Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program reduces lead hazards in privately-owned or rental homes that house low-income children under age 6 and were built before 1978. The program has received HUD grants including a $3 million award to convert approximately 160 lead-hazardous homes into safe homes. Homes must be within Houston city limits.

Remediation costs are covered by HUD grant funding; homeowners and landlords pay nothing out of pocket if they qualify.
