About This Program

The California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program provides a 30–35% discount on monthly SDG&E electricity and natural gas bills for income-qualified residential customers. Eligible customers include those who participate in public assistance programs such as Medicaid, CalFresh, WIC, SSI, or CalWORKs, or whose income falls within program thresholds. CARE reduces the base rate, lowering ongoing energy costs year-round.
