About This Program

The VA Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant provides up to $126,526 (FY 2026) to veterans with severe service-connected disabilities to build, buy, or modify a permanent home to create a barrier-free living environment. Qualifying disabilities include the loss or loss of use of both legs, blindness in both eyes, certain severe burns, or other severe mobility-impacting conditions. The grant may be used up to six times over a veteran's lifetime.

Maximum FY 2026 SAH grant is $126,526; actual amount depends on eligible home modification costs.
