About This Program

The VA HISA grant provides up to $6,800 lifetime for veterans with service-connected disabilities (or $2,000 for non-service-connected conditions) to make medically necessary home improvements. Eligible modifications include ramps, roll-in showers, accessible countertops, grab bars, and accessible entrances. Unlike SAH, HISA applies to renters as well as homeowners. A VA healthcare provider prescription is required.

Lifetime benefit: $6,800 (service-connected) or $2,000 (non-service-connected). Must be medically necessary per VA provider prescription. Applies to both owners and renters.
