About This Program

The VA HISA grant provides funding for home improvements and structural alterations needed for a veteran's medical treatment or to promote independence. Unlike the SAH/SHA grants, HISA can be used for homes owned or rented by the veteran. Veterans with service-connected disabilities qualify for up to $6,800 lifetime; veterans with non-service-connected disabilities qualify for up to $2,000 lifetime.

Service-connected: $6,800 lifetime maximum. Non-service-connected: $2,000 lifetime maximum.
