USDA Section 504 provides very-low-income homeowners with loans of up to $40,000 at 1% interest for 20 years to repair or modernize their home, plus grants of up to $10,000 (for homeowners 62 or older) to remove health and safety hazards. Loans and grants can be combined for up to $50,000 in assistance. Properties must be in USDA-eligible rural areas, verify your specific Jacksonville address at the USDA eligibility site, as some Duval County areas qualify.
